How to improve digestion with reflexology?

On many occasions, when I treat my clients’ feet, I like to talk them through what is happening when they have a sharp pain in certain points, sometimes more intense than other parts of the foot. And of course, I spend more time on those areas to loosen up the blockages. I have noticed many of them have some kind of connected problems with digestion via the stomach reflex, the spleen, the transverse, descending colon or sigmoid colon or the rectum reflex points. One way or another, the client experiences that sharp pain in one of those areas.
All the above points need to be treated to elevate digestive problems in the system. The colon, the large and small intestines are very important to begin with. The colon is known to hold stress and that stress can make digestion worse. Once those points are released the body will relax and stress lowers. On the foot, these points are based between the heel and the soft deep of the foot and its side. This area walked through by dipping the fingers with small massaging steps which is a very different method from any massage techniques you would recognise.

In reflexology we learnt how to treat these points precisely, where to start from and to finish it. Usually, with digestive system issues it is good to start on the left foot and continue through the right to holistically cover all areas that need attention, even if it's not painful everywhere. These organs are right next to each other, and your feet reflect those points. The sciatic nerve is also right there (on the heels), which is the largest diameter in the human body extending from the lower end of the spinal cord to the back of the thigh.
It is very important to discuss with the client if there is any known condition (there are 25) that affect their digestive system such as constipation, coeliac disease, diverticulitis, haemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or gallstones. We, reflexologists, need to be aware of them and spend time on those areas. However, most commonly people report bloating, abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, indigestion, and heartburn. These digestive problems emerge from today’s poor food choices and stress, which can worsen if the same lifestyle continues.
Please get in touch if you experience digestive problems, especially on a regular basis, as they won’t go away on their own. I will make sure to release those blockages that you hold to begin healing.
